Why does the OFF ( — ) button not close the valves?

Forcing the valve closed could potentially cause damage to the engine and exhaust system, because if the ECU requires the valve to be open, but it is forced closed, it may be detrimental to the car's safety or performance.

That is why pressing the close button reverts the exhaust motor control back to normal car operation, instead of forcing the valve closed and potentially causing damage.
