It doesn't work, what can I do?

How they work

The controllers have two modes:

  1. ON - valve / valves stay fully open always
  2. OFF - valve / valves return to normal

In the car's loudest mode the car opens the valves for only some of the time. Even in loud / sport modes they close in certain RPMs, throttle positions, speeds and gears. The role of these exhaust controllers is to keep the valves fully open all the time (no matter what drive mode) and throughout the whole RPM range. While stationary the valves are often open already, especially when the car is warming up, so the difference will be while driving.

It is best that you drive the car a bit more to evaluate as this is when you'll hear the difference the most. It depends on which drive mode you're in, the gear, car speed, throttle position and RPMs. The sound difference will all depend on the specific car and physical exhaust design as all different makes and models have different exhaust designs and how the car controls the valves.

The controllers do not force the valves closed, only open. This means if the car already has the valves open, pressing the close button will not force them closed, that is why you wouldn't be able to hear the valves closing. This is for safety as forcing the valves closed when the car requires them to be open can potentially cause damage.

Steps

To confirm the controller function you can:

  1. Start the car (without pressing the controller remote)
  2. Change the drive mode or wait for the car to close the valves
  3. Once confirming the valves are closed, try pressing the remote on button ( ~ ), the valves should open
  4. Press the controller off button ( - ), the valves will return to normal which should be closed since the car had them closed.

Note for certain Mercedes-Benz models:

As noted on the product page, there is a 5 second delay until the valves open after pressing the controller "on" button.

They also require a new signal from the car to close after turning the controller off (either from changing the drive modes or throttle input). If you blip the accelerator, the car will send a new signal to the actuators and the valves will close and return back to normal. While driving the signals are sent so frequently that as soon as you press the "off" button, the car will regain control of the valves right away.

Still not working?

If you have followed these steps above and you cannot see the controller working, please see our troubleshooting guide here.

Please make sure the valve / valves are closed before trying to use the controller remote.
